Low Pressure

Areas of low atmospheric pressure occur where air is less concentrated. This can be due to intense heating from the surface, making the air above it lighter; or as a result of winds converging and then rising buoyantly up through the atmosphere. Low pressure areas tend to encourage clouds to form, so are often associated with wetter weather.
