High Pressure

Areas of high atmospheric pressure occur where air is more concentrated. This can be due to intense cooling from the surface, making the air above it denser; or as a result of descent of air down through the atmosphere. High pressure areas tend to inhibit the air from rising to form thick clouds, so are often associated with dry weather.
