Freezing Rain

On some occasions, warm, moist air can glide over air which is much colder near the ground. If this moist air becomes saturated, then rain can fall. If the air it falls through in the lowest layers of the atmosphere is below freezing point, the rain can freeze on impact with the ground. The resultant ‘black’ ice can be extremely treacherous.
