Coriolis Force

This effect results from the rotation of the Earth. The consequence is that air is deflected from moving in a straight line from high pressure to low pressure. Instead, in the northern (southern) hemisphere, it spirals clockwise (anticlockwise) out of high pressure and anticlockwise (clockwise) into low pressure.
