Aurora

The Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights) is a dramatic and colourful display seen in the night sky across northern latitudes. It is the result of charged particles from the sun entering the Earth's magnetic field. The ionisation process that occurs between this 'Solar Wind' and the outer atmosphere causes the emission of vivid, multicoloured, 'dancing' waves of light across the night sky. The corresponding display in the southern hemisphere is called the Aurora Australis.
